Ask Joss
If you could spend a day with any other SMITH athlete, who would it be and why?
I would love to spend a day with any of the mountain bikers! I follow mountain biking almost as closely as I follow snow sports. I get a lot of inspiration from how fast and aggressive they ride down the mountain. It would be pretty cool to get inside their heads and see how they approach their craft.
What is your biggest fear or achilles heel?
I’m very afraid of deep water, particularly the ocean. I love the ocean but being stuck out in the deep sea is my nightmare.
What's your go-to coffee shop order?
Anything with caffeine in it. Haha. Just a regular coffee with some cream and sugar hits the spot just right.
If you weren't an incredible athlete, what would you be?
That’s a really hard question to answer. For as long as I can remember skiing has been my ultimate goal. My best guess would be some other action sport such as mountain biking.
What is your favorite SMITH product?
I am a huge fan of the Squad XL goggle. It fits my face perfectly.
What are 5 things you can't leave home without?
Phone, wallet, hat or beanie, I stick to three daily essentials.
If you could have 1 super-power, what would it be?
I would love to have the ability to rewind time. I can only imagine all the injuries I could’ve prevented.
Joss was born and raised in Park City, Utah. He was put on skis as soon as he could walk as his parents were die hard skiers. He’s been obsessed with skiing for as long as he can remember, and making it my way of life has always been the goal. He was lucky enough to grow up around so many other skiers who had the same passion, which allowed him to progress at a young age. He started working my way up the competition scene at age 13 and was picked for the 2014 Olympic Slopestyle team by age 22. He loves every aspect of skiing from competing, touring in the backcountry and just getting out of his comfort zone. He’s tried his hardest to use his success and platforms to spread his love for skiing and to help grow the sport.
In late 2014, Joss started SLVSH with good friend and fellow skier Matt Walker. They wanted to create a platform to help out skiers across the world who might not have the funds or opportunities to compete to get the chance to show their skills and get recognition on the internet. Their YouTube channel has over 21 million views so far, and Joss hopes to grow bigger and bigger! To wrap it up, his life has always been about skiing and will continue to be about skiing for years to come.
