Last race of the year for me was hillclimbworldsbymavic up Gibraltar in Santa Barbara. Racing the Open/Pro Men’s 19-29 category was just as daunting as it was last year, but I came in prepared and with much better fitness. The rollout to the race was much more mild than last year’s due to the lack of a motor bike escort setting the pace which I was extremely thankful for. However, the 6 mile neutral rollout has about 1000’ of climbing and gets particularly hilly in the last mile before the climb (where I got dropped last year) so as we hit the final kilometer before the climb I slowly rolled off the back of the group knowing I’d catch some on the climb. 38:24 later and 314 watts average for that time, I rolled across the finish line with a top 10 spot against some of the best in the world. // 📸: c_duffy210 // #hillclimbworlds #hillclimbworldchampionships #cognitioncyclery #smithoptics #splitnutrition #pedalmafia
