There’s nothing more rewarding or fulfilling than sharing something you love with others. This past weekend I had the great opportunity to take my 14 year old nephew Rafa on his first ever mountain bike ride - a highly sandbagged 100 mile bikepacking trip in Arizona on the Black Canyon Trail. I never imagined being an uncle would be so damn fun! To add to the adventure, my brother-in-law took us down to Arizona in his little Cessna. The flight was something I will never forget, and the three day riding experience was truly something that makes my heart happy thinking about. Rafa was thrown right into it, and learned fast. A few big crashes, and he started to dial in his program. His willingness to learn, push through the hard times, and persevere was incredible. This was not a walk in the park by any means, with some long 10+ hour days in the saddle, and technical riding to boot. Trial by fire I think they say. He grew up in London, and is really a city boy, but we’ll get him crushing it in the mountains in no time now that my sister and nephews are living in Colorado.
